Through photography, painting, and poetry, Inventory of Familiar Grounds lingers on the nostalgia tucked inside everyday moments. As a way to close out the year, we've brought together three local artists whose work captures a shared moodiness: an atmosphere of weariness, contemplation, and respite.
This exhibition proposal was an opportunity for these artists to create a platform for their recent works in a community-engaged space, coming together to reflect on the year as we transition into winter. Ideas of retrospection and the desire to connect are visualised through the works of Mia Cinus, Taome Kai and Valby Imaging System. The selected artworks provide an opportunity for the viewer to connect with the underlying theme of the exhibition, allowing for an intimate viewing experience.
The minimal number of artists chosen reflects the concept of loneliness in a season of the year when Seasonal Affective Disorder is rife amongst the younger population. During these periods of darkness and isolation, we gravitate towards distractions as a form of comfortability as present in the works - technology, literature and music. Inventory of Familiar Grounds appreciates the mundanity and quiet moments of the everyday.

Grounded visualises the connecting threads between the body and the Earth. The exhibiting artists have interpretated this concept by looking at nature, folklore, place and everything in between that allows us to appreciate the importance of being grounded and connected to the Earth.
